DIF har udviklet Det idrætspolitiske magtbarometer for at kunne dokumentere, hvilken indflydelse, Danmark har på den idrætspolitiske scene set i forhold til andre nationer.

Magtbarometeret er blevet udgivet seks gange. Første gang blev der taget udgangspunkt i magtbalancen i 2013, og siden er undersøgelsen blevet gentaget for 2015, 2017, 2019, 2021, 2023 og 2025. Dermed er det ikke bare muligt at se den aktuelle placering, men også Danmarks og de andre nationers bevægelser over tid.

Udviklingen af Det idrætspolitiske magtbarometer blev oprindelig lanceret i kølvandet på lanceringen af DIF’s første internationale strategi, som blandt andet gik ud på at få flere danskere valgt ind på tunge poster i de internationale idrætsforbund. Det er den dag i dag et vigtigt element i DIF's internationale strategi.

2025-udgaven af magtbarometeret er ligesom de tidligere udgaver lavet på baggrund af registreringen af tusindvis af medlemmer af bestyrelserne for de mest betydningsfulde internationale idrætsorganisationer og -forbund.

2025-konklusioner

  • På den grobale rangliste går Danmark fra nummer 36 til 35

  • På den eurpæiske rangliste går Danmark fra nummer 21 til nummer 19

  • Europa går som den eneste kontinet tilbage, mens de andre kontinenter går frem

  • Særligt Afrika og Asien har øget sin indflydelse

  • Det virker til at være en stor fordel at have atletbaggrund, hvis man vil være international idrætspolitiker

  • En tredjedel af de danske idrætspolitikere har atletbaggrund. Tre fjerdedele af de norske idrætspolitikere har atletbaggrund

  • Rusland går voldsomt tilbage. På den europæiske rangliste fra en syvendeplads til en plads som nummer 22

DIF has developed the Sports Political Power Index to document the level of influence Denmark holds on the international sports policy stage compared with other nations.

The Power Index has been published six times. The first edition was based on the balance of power in 2013, and the study has since been repeated for 2015, 2017, 2019, 2021, 2023 and 2025. This makes it possible not only to see the current ranking, but also to track developments in Denmark’s position and that of other nations over time.

The Sports Political Power Index was originally launched in the wake of DIF’s first international strategy, which, among other objectives, aimed to secure more senior positions for Danish representatives within international sports federations. It remains an important element of DIF’s international strategy to this day.

Like previous editions, the 2025 Power Barometer is based on the registration and analysis of thousands of board members from the most influential international sports organisations and federations.

2025-conclusions

  • In the global ranking, Denmark moves from 36th to 35th place

  • In the European ranking, Denmark moves from 21st to 19th place

  • Europe is the only continent to decline, while the other continents have made progress

  • Africa and Asia in particular have increased their influence

  • It appears to be a significant advantage to have an athletic background if you want to pursue a career in international sports governance

  • One third of Danish sports officials have an athletic background, compared with three out of four Norwegian sports officials.

  • Russia has declined significantly, dropping from seventh place to 22nd in the European rankings
