There are roughly 14,000 sports clubs in Denmark. Nationwide the clubs are organised in two main organisations, and many are members of both.
The National Olympic Committee and Sports Confederation of Denmark (DIF), which was founded in 1896, is today the umbrella organisation of 62 national federations comprising around 11,000 clubs with approximately 1.6 million members in all.
